Smart Collateral – Tier 1 International Bank – Annual Upgrade Cycle for High-Volume Collateral Operations

Overview

A Tier 1 international bank managing exceptionally high transaction volumes and complex, highly bespoke collateral requirements has adopted an annual upgrade cycle for Smart Collateral.

Challenge

With operations spanning multiple time zones and numerous upstream and downstream systems integrated into the Smart Collateral platform, the bank required a cadence of regular upgrades. Its objective was to capitalise quickly on newly released functionality while also enabling targeted development to support expansion into the Chinese market.

Solution

The bank demonstrated strong self-sufficiency in performing the Smart Collateral upgrade, completing the process in an impressively short timeframe for an institution of its scale, allowing it to adopt new features and underlying technologies almost immediately upon release. To meet regulatory expectations in Asia, the system’s internal data-segregation capabilities were extended to ensure users in different regions could not access each other’s proprietary data. APIs were also introduced to expose statement and event data, enabling the generation of tailored communications in local languages to support bespoke notice requirements.

Benefits

Regular upgrades have enabled the bank to adopt new functionality rapidly while supporting compliance with EU-DORA requirements. Concentration-limit monitoring was also enhanced for the repo and securities lending business lines, allowing the platform to support more sophisticated agreement structures across these areas.
