Use Case

Smart Data – Global Tier 1 Sell-Side Bank – ETD Reference Data

Overview

A global Tier 1 sell-side bank and FCM with a long-standing strategic partnership with Smartstream dating back to 2015, progressively expanding its use of Smart Data services to support its Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETD) operations across trading, regulatory reporting, and compliance.

Challenge

The bank was generating a high volume of reference data exceptions, creating significant operational overhead. It needed a provider that could meet the coverage and quality requirements to support its ETD trading, regulatory, and compliance functions end to end.

Solution

The bank implemented Smart Data’s Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETD) Reference Data service as its primary source for product and contract setup, supporting front office trading, middle office reporting, and back office settlement and clearing. For regulatory obligations, the bank also adopted Smartstream’s MiFID, EMIR Refit, and custom SEC filing services. In 2025, the partnership expanded further with the addition of new derivatives and EMIR datasets, reflecting the bank’s growing reliance on Smartstream as a strategic data provider.

Benefits

The solution delivered enhanced in-house control over listed derivatives and regulatory reporting, with greater transparency and accountability across reporting processes. High-quality reference data improved the accuracy of submissions to regulatory authorities, reducing exceptions and driving compliance and operational excellence across front-to-back workflows.
