Reconciliation for faster, always-on markets
Shorter settlement cycles and round-the-clock operations bring higher transaction volumes and more exceptions to investigate. Thomas Steinborn, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Smartstream, outlines how the platform is evolving to keep pace while controlling running costs.
The Smart Reconciliations Premium cloud-native reconciliation platform uses elastic scaling and faster processing, so capacity follows demand in the customer’s own private cloud, data centre or public cloud.
Explainable AI and smarter processes
A new generation of machine learning-based matching shows operators and regulators how each match was decided, with performance gains alongside. Generative AI goes further than accelerating routine tasks: Smartstream works with customers to rethink and simplify processes, capture expert knowledge and prove the return on investment.
Institutions with mature AI governance are already moving Smart Agents for autonomous exception handling into live operations, while others progress through use case selection and proof of concept.
Connected data across operations
Unstructured documents such as invoices, settlement statements and rate cards are processed and remembered for future use. The ambition is a central data platform linking reconciliation with the middle office, cash balances and corporate actions and proxy voting automation.
Tokenisation is also shaping client conversations, particularly around the Smart Collateral management solution, where asset movements could shrink from hours to seconds.
Security and a faster release rhythm
Security and compliance sit alongside AI and performance on the roadmap. As releases move towards a monthly rhythm, Smartstream is working with customers on practical ways to verify, certify and adopt updates while staying compliant.
